Fahad Riaz Choudhry

PhD (Psychology) — Founder & Director

Clinician and researcher with over 13 years of experience supporting clients from diverse backgrounds through culturally informed mental health care and research.

Across 13 years of practice and research, I’ve seen that even small steps can transform lives and I’m honored to be part of that journey with my clients.

Therapeutic Approach

I approach my work from a scientist–practitioner perspective, integrating both lived experience and academic insight. My training began in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and over time my practice has grown to be more inclusive, incorporating techniques from mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), along with culturally and spiritually attuned approaches, all tailored to each client’s unique needs. Recognizing that healing cannot be reduced to a single method, I draw from a variety of evidence-informed approaches to support each person on their journey.

“Healing begins in spaces of trust and authenticity, where you can be fully seen and heard.”

Fahad Riaz Choudhry, PhD (Psychology)

How I Work

My years as a qualitative researcher and published author, listening deeply to people’s lived experiences, taught me that every person’s story carries wisdom. That same sensibility guides my therapeutic work. I don’t see clients as problems to be solved, but as individuals whose experiences deserve to be understood in the full context of their lives. Every client’s narrative holds meaning, and being truly heard is often the first step toward healing.

Therapy Philosophy

I believe healing begins in spaces of trust and authenticity where you can be fully seen and heard. At Tahli Mental Health Services, I aim to nurture such spaces: where personal dimensions of well-being are respected and integrated into care.

I work through an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens, recognizing how systemic inequities, racism, marginalization, economic stress, or workplace injustice, can affect our mental health. Therapy becomes a space not only to heal, but to make meaning and reclaim strength.

I provide therapy in multiple languages and have experience supporting clients from diverse cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds.

Multicultural Experience

I have worked with clients from a wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including Canadian, South Asian, Arabic, Muslim, and other international communities. Having lived and worked in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, I bring a culturally informed and globally grounded perspective to therapy. This experience allows me to support clients in navigating challenges related to identity, migration, culture, and systemic factors, while providing care that is relevant, inclusive, and responsive to each individual’s unique context, whether they are newcomers, First Nations, or long-standing members of Canadian society. I work in an inclusive space that welcomes people of all identities, including Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, and other historically marginalized communities.
