Islamically modified CBT (iCBT) for Muslims with mental illness
What is it about?
To our knowledge, no systematic review has reviewed empirical studies of iCBT for Muslims with mental illness. A recent narrative review discussed the challenge of modifying the CBT approach to integrate Islamic values and presented options that may reduce the differences between secular and Islamic approaches, as well as ways to provide support to individuals who may not be concerned about secular CBT teachings (Cucchi, 2022).
Why is it important?
The findings are vital as they show that interventions should be modified for Muslim clients especially those related to CBT. In this regard, iCBT should be taken as the initial and preferred intervention modality when dealing with clients who are inclined toward Islam as it may result in quicker improvement, enhanced compliance with management, reduced chances of relapse, and lower treatment disparities
